City of Lincoln Council is inviting residents and members of the public to learn more about the work of Lincoln Crematorium at a free open day this September.
Taking place on Saturday 5 September from 10am to 2pm, the event will give visitors the opportunity to meet the Bereavement Services team, explore the crematorium’s facilities and learn more about the support available to families before, during and after a bereavement.
The open day is designed to help people better understand the services provided at Lincoln Crematorium, whether they are planning ahead, supporting a loved one or are simply interested in finding out more about the work that takes place behind the scenes.
Throughout the day, visitors will be able to take guided tours of the West Chapel, the Crematory and the Garden of Remembrance, with the crematory tour being entirely optional.
Staff will also be available to answer questions in an informal setting and explain the cremation process, memorial options and the care taken throughout every stage of the service.
National institutes that support the Bereavement Services sector will also be exhibiting on the day, including the Institute of Cemetery and Crematorium Management and the Federation of Burial and Cremation Authorities.
Visitors will have the opportunity to learn more about the professionals that support our Bereavement Services team, as well as view demonstrations, including the skilled craft of calligraphy in our Book of Remembrance.
Steve Bird, Assistant Director for Communities and Street Scene at City of Lincoln Council, said: “This is an important day for us, and part of showing how this vital service is wanting to be as open and transparent as possible for the people of this area. It is an opportunity for people to ask questions about their local crematorium and see as much, or as little, of the actual processes as they wish.
“We want people to be reminded that we are a trusted service provider that works with local funeral directors to tailor the services that people want and need, right here on their doorstep. Working together we make sure that people get the level of service they desire without feeling pressured by national TV advertising campaigns to send their loved ones away.”
