East Lindsey District Council is launching a new funding programme to offer grants to visitor economy businesses based in the Lincolnshire Wolds and the surrounding area.
Following a decision made at the authority’s executive board to allocate £400,000 from the East Lindsey Investment Fund to the scheme, eligible businesses are now being encouraged to apply for grants.
The Council created the Discover the Wolds Business Growth Programme after identifying untapped potential within the Wolds visitor economy, particularly around facilitating initiatives which enhance the visitor experience and attract sustainable growth-focused tourism.
The programme is particularly focused on strengthening the area’s appeal to visitors seeking distinctive and authentic experiences – including those attracted by the Wolds’ landscapes, heritage, walking and cycling and rural character.
Businesses from a number of different sectors across the visitor economy are welcome to apply for grants, either capital or revenue, but priority will be given to projects that improve the visitor experience, encourage longer stays, increase local visitor spending, strengthen local supply chains and reflect the character of the area.
Capital grants of between £20,000 and £50,000 are available at up to 40% of eligible costs. Businesses must be looking to spend a minimum of £50,000 to support investment in visitor attractions, accommodation, food and drink, visitor infrastructure, equipment, premises improvements and other capital projects that enhance the visitor experience and contribute to the wider destination offer.
Revenue grants of between £2,500 and £5,000 are available at up to 50% of eligible costs.
These grants will be available to support activity which will help them increase bookings through marketing digital development, new visitor experience creation, business planning, market testing and other initiatives designed to increase visitor numbers, bookings and business growth.
Although predominantly aimed at businesses, voluntary, community and charitable organisations actively involved in the visitor economy sector may also be considered for support.
